Characters In this novel:

Maria Sanchez: Works at a law firm as a legal secretary. Her parents are Mexican immigrants who owned a Mexican Restaurant, 

Serena: Maria’s little sister who goes to the same college as Colin. An Internet Influencer

Colin Hancock: Bad boy who never followed rules and got kicked out of all schools including military school. He is given a second chance to correct his ways  or goes to prison for the rest of his life. He currently is a profesional fighter and goes to college to become a teacher.

Ethan and Lily: Best friends of Colin, who he lives with and are engaged to be married.

Detective Margolis: The detective that runs Colins case and is not too fond of him.

Taking place in Wilmington, NC, Colin and Maria meet on a rainy night, where he offers to change her tire. Due to Colin’s beatened face after a fight, Maria is frghtened of Colin but still allows him to do this for her. Thinking they would both never see each other again and as fate would have it, Maria’s sister Serena is in the same class as Colin and introduces them to each other. When they see each other for the second time on the same day as straight forward as Colin is, he tells her his whole truth which puts Maria on a spiral of emotions. Maria has no words, but yet there is something about him. Even though Maria has mixed feelings for Colin she falls in love with him and wants to spend all her available time with Colin, including meeting her parents.  Her parents are not as happy when they find out of his past. They are very traditional people and Colin does not fit in. Meanwhile, Maria starts having issues with one of the lawyers at the office and is unsure what to do next. Once her and Colin start going out more they encounter a problem at a club which gets law enforcement involved and Maria for the first time is unsure of a future with Colin. Maria has a past that catches up with her and threatens her life and her family as well. 

I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who truly wants to read this story. Sorry!!

 

My Review:

This story was interesting. It does catch you in the beginning and what I liked about it was that you think this story is about Colin at first, then things start happening to Maria, and you think you know where this story is going to be about. Then there is a spin and this is where I didn’t really get into it much because all of a sudden there is a total big change in the story and complete different characters come in. It makes me wonder if the author did this on purpose or did he think of other things while writing this book and decided to change the story all together. So the book I felt was longer then necessary due to this change. I felt like he started over with Maria’s storyline and I was discouraged. So now your left with what is going to happen with Colin and Maria’s future. Will Colin go to prison for the rest of his life? Will Maria end her relationship with Colin due to his past? Then it picks up at the end of the book and that is where I couldn’t put it down until I find out what happens to Colin and Maria. 

It wasn’t my favorite book of Nicholas Sparks, but still pretty good.
